ONLY EIGHT PILOTS QUALIFIED TO LAND ON 'TERRIFYING' RUNWAY VIDEO
There is a small airport in the Himalayan mountains with a 6,500-foot runway and picturesque surroundings. When flying into Paro Airport in Bhutan passengers may be staring in terrified awe of the 18,000-foot mountainous peaks or have their eyes squeezed tightly shut as the pilot weaves through the range.
But only eight pilots are qualified to fly into Paro. And up until earlier this year, only one airline serviced the airport. The Daily Mail reports that take off and landing can only take place in daylight hours:
The runway is just 6,500 feet long – one of the few in the world shorter than their elevation above sea level.
Planes have to weave through the dozens of houses that are scattered across the mountainside – coming within feet of clipping the roofs.
Strong winds whip through the valleys, often resulting in severe turbulence. Passengers who have been on flights to the airport have described the landing as ‘terrifying’.
Up until July, the Daily Mail reports, Druk Air was the only airline flying into the airport, which Boeing has said is “one of the world’s most difficult for takeoffs and landings.” Buddha Air also serves the facility, which takes in about 30,000 people each year.
In 2009, the airport was named by Travel Leisure the number 1 most dangerous airport in the world. Also making the list were the International Airport of Princess Juliana, St.Martin, Reagan National Airport, Washington DC, and Airport of Gibraltar.
PLANE NOSE DIVES INTO SCHOOL AFTER TAKE OFF VIDEO
This is the video of the light aircraft that crashed into a school within the residential area in Parañaque City, Philippines on December 10, 2011. A bystander has manage to luckily capture the final moments of the plane using a celphone video camera.
According to the news, this accident sparked a huge fire that consequently killed 13 people.
Authorities reported that the plane crushed in Felixberto Serrano Elementary School, which was surrounded by shanty houses. The school was located near Annex 35 Subdivision.
It was said that the plane's crash caused a huge fire in the school, which spread to the surrounding shanties. At least 50 homes were gutted by the fire.
Ramon Gutierrez, head of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), said that the plane, a twin-engine Beechcraft Queen Air cargo carrier light airplane with tail number RPC-824, crashed after taking off from the domestic airport near Merville Subdivision.
Gutierrez said that the plane was bound for San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, where it was supposed to fetch a fish cargo. He said that after taking off, the plane's pilot requested for a rerun from the air control tower, citing mechanical trouble.
The plane crashed while on its way back to the airport.
Gutierrez said that the plane had three passengers, including a civilian and two pilots identified as Timoteo Aldo and Jessie Kim Lustica.
Gutierrez said that the plane that crashed has a capacity of six to eight passengers, including seats for two pilots.

Very chilling sound of turbine engine failure. Crashed on 12/1/01 in Bryne UT. Tail Number N911KH.
Accident report details:
The helicopter was fueled to capacity the evening before, and the engine compartment
was preheated before departure. Preflight inspection revealed no frost on the airframe
or rotor blades. The particle separator was clean and dry. Engine start and takeoff
were normal. After crossing a highway 1/2 mile south from the heliport, at an
airspeed "in excess of 50 mph [and] at an altitude of approximately 50-70 feet,"
the engine "flamed out." There was a noticeable yaw and the pilot heard "the sound
of the engine shutting off." He autorotated towards a highway right-of-way.
The helicopter struck the ground hard and slid 20 to 30 feet. "Mast bumping" broke
the rotor head off. It struck the rear of the helicopter, severing the tail section.
The helicopter spun around and rolled over on its right side. Postaccident
examination disclosed no fuel remaining because the rear skid leg had punctured
the fuel tank. The pilot and his two passengers had been drenched with fuel when
they evacuated the helicopter. All fuel lines and fuel filter were intact, free
of debris, and contained fuel. The turbine and compressor turned freely by hand.
The pilot said he noted dirt on the inside of the cap "consistent with the dirt
at the crash site." Later, he wrote that "the dirt on the inside of the fuel
cap was orange, the same color as at the heliport. The dirt at the crash site
is more brown native soil." He noted vehicle tracks in the snow behind the helipad.
Footprints led from the tire tracks to a small dirt pile and back to the helipad.
Suspecting the helicopter may have been sabotaged, the pilot contacted the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) field office in St. George, Utah. He
said that in the 6 years the company has been doing business in the Bryce
Canyon area, he had been slandered, vandalized, and threatened with death.
According to the FBI special agent, his agency would not become involved
unless there was "conclusive evidence" that a crime had been committed.
NTSB Probable Cause Narrative
Loss of engine power for reasons undetermined. Contributing factors were the
low airspeed and altitude at which to perform an autorotation.

STUNTMAN TODD GREEN PLUNGES TO DEATH DURING MICHIGAN AIR SHOW VIDEO
Stuntman Todd Green, the son of legendary wing walker and skydiver Eddie (The Grip) Green, is dead after falling from the wing of a plane on Sunday afternoon at the Selfridge Air Show in Harrison Township, Michigan.
Todd Green was certainly one of a few stuntmen in the world brave enough to walk on the wing of a plane; but ill-fated moment was chasing him on Sunday at Selfridge Air National Guard Base as about 75,000 people looked on.
According to witnesses; Green seemed well-balanced on a wing of a plane until he fell trying to clutch a helicopter’s skid on his third attempt.
Just moments after a commentator took note of the wind, Green tumbled from a wing when he was unable to cling onto the helicopter as part of a trick he had been doing for years.

Previously-unseen video footage has surfaced online, allegedly showing the crash of an Iranian military jet at an air show two years ago. It captures the moment the Ilyushin IL-76MD military plane falls to earth and explodes, after a mid-air collision with F-5E Tiger II. The haunting video was filmed by the crew of a C-130 that was filming the refuelling of an F-4 Phantom II. The planes were taking part in the September 22, 2009 air show and parade just outside Tehran. All seven crewmembers on board the IL-76MD were killed in the crash.

LIFT OFF FOR MARTIN JETPACK BY THE END OF THE YEAR VIDEO
* In development for 30 years
* Shipping to start by end of year
* "Strap it on, rev the nuts out of it"
ROCKETEERS take note: the wait for your very own jet ski in the sky is nearly over, according to the New Zealand company behind an ambitious aeronautical project.
The Martin Jetpack, literally a strap-on personal flying machine, is now in the final stages of development, with the first machines to be dispatched for solo flights by the end of the year.
Military agencies, border control and rescue organisations in the US will be the first to use the pricey $NZ100,000 (about $75,000) aircraft.
Inventor Glenn Martin predicts it will be just 18 months before other wealthy enthusiasts get their delivery.
"We've had 2500 people sign up for one so far, and plenty of them from Australia," Mr Martin said.
Their plans for the expensive toy range from practical - "some just want to dodge the rush-hour traffic and do it in style" - to the purely frivolous.
"We know of someone that would love to do stunts flying across Sydney Harbour. How amazing would that be?" Mr Martin said.
The jetpack resembles two leaf blowers welded together but its capabilities are much more complex. The two-litre, jet-powered engine can soar across the skies at 100km/h at heights of up to 50m.
Carrying enough fuel to fly for 30 minutes, the contraption could be used in hard-to-access areas and war zones to patrol borders and, if unmanned, to make difficult deliveries by remote control.
"Some of that might sound boring but where there's huge cost savings and an increase in efficiencies for agencies it's actually hugely exciting," Mr Martin said.
Recreationally, it could be used to go fishing and, one day, get to work.
For now, however, it is categorised as a microlight so it cannot be taken into the city centre, however this may change under US law.
Martin's machine, lauded as Time magazine's most anticipated invention last year, has been more than three decades in the making.
The Christchurch man began tinkering with the concept in the 1970s, inspired by the limited success of the US Bell Rocket Belt, which stayed airborne for just 26 seconds before crashing.
A gas-guzzler in the extreme, the belt burned through $US2000 worth of fuel in 30 seconds.
Mr Martin's latest and most celebrated version, unveiled at an air show in 2008, is more fuel efficient, costing just 15 US cents for 20 seconds in the air.
It was designed to be the "simplest aircraft in the world," said Mr Martin, who has described how "you strap it on, rev the nuts out of it and it lifts you up off the ground".
"It's basic physics. As Newton said, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So when you shoot lots of air down very fast you go up and you're flying."
He said the interest had been overwhelming, with inquiries coming from Middle Eastern royalty, US business tycoons and European daredevils.
The Australian Government hadn't officially registered its interest but, judging by website traffic, the Australian Defence Force was a fan.
"It's the fourth biggest visitor to our site after Boeing, NASA and the SAS, so something's going on there," he said with a laugh.
"Maybe they've just got an employee who thinks it's so cool they spend all day checking it out."

Fly on water thrust. This new jet pack idea may not be the best
way to get to work, but it sure does look like a good time. The German company MS Watersports
GmbH is marketing the water-pressure-powered JetLev-flyer "jet pack" and selling it
(lessons included) for about $128,000 ... or just about what a brand new two-seat
120 mph light sport aircraft would cost you. But you can't use one of those underwater.
For what it's worth, we'll bet this thing makes significantly more noise, too.

Delta Airlines flight 4951 made a safe emergency landing at JFK International Airport in New York City yesterday after the aircraft's right landing gear failed. There were 64 passengers and crew members aboard as well as 3,000 gallons of flammable fuel.
The pilot maintained composure as he radioed air traffic control. He reported “The right gear is stuck up. The other two are down”. When More..asked which runway he wanted to land on, he stated “Whichever one would be better for you all.” They settled on Runway 31 Right.
Flight crew members prepped passengers for the emergency landing by telling them “heads down stay down!” in the crash position. The captain told them to brace for impact over the intercom.
Rescuers on the ground feared the worst on account of the 3,000 gallons of flammable fuel. As the plane landed, sparks flew from the righthand side but the plane did not catch fire.
All 64 people were shuttled safely from the aircraft to the airport.
The "Snowbird" performed its record-breaking flight on August 2 at the Great Lakes Gliding Club in Tottenham, Ont., the wing-flapping device sustained both altitude and airspeed for 19.3 seconds, and covered a distance of 145 metres at an average speed of 25.6 kilometres per hour. The Snowbird weighs just 94 lbs. and has a wing span of 32 metres (105 feet). Although its wings More..pan is comparable to that of a Boeing 737, the Snowbird weighs less than all of the pillows on board. Pilot Reichert lost 18 lbs. of body weight this past summer to facilitate flying the aircraft.
